Istanbul Technical University (ITU), in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), is proud to organise the "ITU_TIKA_JICA Third Country Training Programme on Seismology, Earthquake Engineering and Disaster Management". This two-week programme combines theoretical and practical content to enhance participants' capacity to implement risk reduction strategies in their home countries. Since its inception, the programme has trained 89 participants from various developing countries, and this number is expected to increase in the coming years. By providing training at the international level, ITU continues to demonstrate its global influence and contribute to the development of disaster management capabilities worldwide.
As Turkey's leading research institute in earthquake engineering and disaster management, ITU is a key partner in JICA's triangular cooperation initiative, which facilitates technology transfer through expert training programmes. This collaboration has become even more important following the February 2023 earthquakes and the growing seismic risks in the Marmara region. Through this programme, ITU and JICA are addressing the growing need for comprehensive disaster management and empowering participants to make impactful contributions in their respective countries. With the support of local partners and a shared vision for resilience, this programme underscores ITU's commitment to advancing global disaster preparedness and response.
