Our faculty members Assoc. Prof. Zeynep Tuna Değer and Assoc. Prof. Gülşen Taşkın Kaya published a research paper titled "No more black-boxes: Estimate deformation capacity of non-ductile RC shear walls based on generalized additive models" in the Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering.

This study, conducted in collaboration with Prof. John W. Wallace from the University of California, Los Angeles, aims to address the limitations of black-box machine learning approaches in earthquake engineering. By utilizing generalized additive models, the researchers provide a transparent and interpretable method to estimate the deformation capacity of non-ductile reinforced concrete shear walls.
