Our faculty member, Assoc. Prof. Reşat Atalay Oyguç, as part of a collaborative research group, has published a new article in the journal Applied Sciences.

The study explores an innovative retrofit solution for reinforced concrete (RC) frames using an all-steel Tube-in-Tube Buckling-Restrained Brace (TnT BRB) system. Shake table tests on scaled RC frame specimens demonstrated that the retrofitted structure significantly outperformed its unretrofitted counterpart, which experienced brittle joint failures and large lateral displacements.

The TnT BRB-retrofitted frame exhibited enhanced energy dissipation, reduced inter-story drift, and preserved joint integrity. Complementary finite element analyses supported the experimental findings, reinforcing the TnT BRB system as a practical and effective approach for improving the seismic performance of vulnerable RC structures.
