Our faculty member, Asst. Prof. Ali Yeşilyurt, has published a new article on improving seismic risk assessment for historic structures. This study aims to identify the most suitable ground motion intensity measures (IMs) for use in probabilistic seismic demand models (PSDMs) for masonry Roman aqueducts and to develop fragility curves for these IMs.

A finite element model was created based on field data and laboratory tests, and analyses were conducted using 478 real earthquake records. The results identified spectral acceleration at the fundamental period of the structure (Sa(T1)) as the optimal IM parameter.
Based on these findings, fragility curves were developed, and exceedance probabilities for different damage states were calculated. The study demonstrated that selecting the appropriate IM parameter significantly improves the accuracy of seismic vulnerability assessment and risk analysis for masonry aqueducts.
